Sodium Hydroxide IP
Abstract
Sodium hydroxide also known as lye or caustic soda is a highly caustic metallic base and alkali salt and is available in pellets, flakes, granules and solutions. It is deliquescent and readily absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide in air.
Use/Application
Sodium Hydroxide is a strong base used in the paper industry, in manufacture of sodium salts and detergents, in pH regulation and organic synthesis. It is also used in petroleum industry, in chemical pulping of wood, in etching, removing anodizing, used as a catalyst in the manufacture of biodiesel. It is used in the chemical peeling of fruits and vegetables and as an industrial cleaning agent.
