Characters It occurs as a White, or practically white, needle-shaped crystals or powder. Has a faint, characteristic odor and a sweetish, followed by a bitter, taste. Acquires a pink tint on exposure to light and air.

(a) Infrared Absorption.

(b) The color changes to pale yellow.

(c) A blue-violet color is produced, and it fades slowly.

Solubility Freely soluble in water, in alcohol, in glycerin, and in ether; slightly soluble in chloroform.
Melting Range Between 109° and 111°.
Loss on Drying Not more than 1.0%
Residue on Ignition Not more than 0.05%
Ordinary Impurities Not more than 1.0%
Phenol The odor of phenol is not perceptible.
Catechol No turbidity is produced.
Residual Solvents Meets the requirement

Shelf life, Storage and Packing

It should be stored in a segregated area in a cool and ventilated place away from combustible materials. Keep in a tightly closed container, sealed until ready for use. It is packed in 25kg or 50kg HDPE bags or drums as required.
