Potassium Sodium Tartrate USP
Abstract
Potassium Sodium Tartrate is a double salt known as Rochelle salt that exhibits piezoelectricity. It is a colorless to blue white salt crystallizing in the orthorhombic system.
Use/Application
Potassium sodium tartrate exhibits piezoelectricity and so was used as transducers in microphones and earpieces. It is also used as a food additive and medicinally as a laxative. It is also used in the process of silvering mirrors, an ingredient of Fehling’s solution, as a common precipitant in protein crystallography and an ingredient in Biuret reagent.
