Calcium Stearate BP

Abstract
Calcium Stearate occurs as a white waxy powder and is found in some lubricants and surfactants. It is a compound of calcium with a mixture of solid organic acids obtained from edible sources and consists chiefly of variable proportions of calcium stearate and calcium palmitate.

Use/Application
Calcium Stearate is used as a flow agent in powders, a surface conditioner in hard candies, a waterproofing agent for fabrics and a lubricant in pencils and crayons. It is also used in the concrete industry, in paper production, in plastics as an acid scavenger or neutralizer, in personal care and pharmaceutical industry and as a component in some type of defoamers.
