Benzoic Acid BP
Abstract
Benzoic acid is a colorless crystalline solid and a simple aromatic carboxylic acid. Slightly soluble in water.
Use/Application
Benzoic acid is mainly consumed in the production of phenol by oxidative decarboxylation at 300−400 °C. It is a precursor to sodium benzoate and related preservatives. It is used for the treatment of fungal skin diseases.
