Adipic Acid BP
Abstract
Adipic acid or hexanedioic acid is the organic compound with the formula (CH2)4(COOH)2.
Adipic acid is a white crystalline solid. It is insoluble in water.
Use/Application
Small but significant amounts of adipic acid are used as a food ingredient as a flavorant and gelling aid. As an acidulant in dry powdered food mixtures, especially in those products having delicate flavors & where addition of a tang to the flavor is undesirable.
